Mrs. Fauntleroy was another gem. She swore I had "problems at home" and had me sent to the principal's office based on a misunderstanding. She mistakenly gave me an assignment that I had already completed. I brought this to her attention and she said I was trying to cheat or something like that. Nevermind the fact that I was probably the best student in the class. The entire class was basically yelling at her, trying to tell her she was making a mistake, but she had me sent away anyway. First and last time ever in the principal's office.

If I had to eliminate one emotion from my life, I would definitely choose to get rid of fear. Fear is the only emotion that I dislike. I know it was probably useful before our brains were evolved enough to realize jumping off a cliff or sticking your limbs in a fire would be "bad...mmmmkay?", but at this point I think it only prevents me from being able to take what I want in life for fear of failure or rejection...

Fear is definitely a Factor for me and it sucks!

Sidekick II vs. Upoc.com

It seems that upoc.com does not support MMS messages to/from their
Sidekick users. This is due to a restriction in their system which only
allows email addresses of the form <phone number>@provider.com.

Being a T-Mobile customer, the email it is trying to use for the
email->sms gateway is <phone number>@tmomail.net. The twist here is that
if you have a sidekick, that address does not work for anything except
normal sms. This is because, the sidekick doesn't really support MMS
messaging.

"But I have unlimited picture messages with my Sidekick!" you exclaim.
My reply to that: put your sim in a regular phone and watch your bill
skyrocket. :)

So, since Upoc.com won't allow you to register an alternative email
address, what can we do to work around this? One way would be to use
email masquerading to send emails that appear to come from tmomail.net.
This would allow you to send MMS to upoc.

As far as receiving, I think we are assed out on that one. The only way
that could work is if T-Mobile allowed you to forward your tmomail
address, but I think that's highly improbable. I'll keep you posted...

Troubleshooting

This week we are doing troubleshooting in training. We went outside and
did an excercise where we paired off and one of us built something out
of sponge blocks while the other wasn't looking. Then we had to switch
places and the person that did the building had to explain to the other
how to build it from scratch.

Keep in mind, at no point were we allowed to actually see eachother or
point or anything. Me and my partner had no problems, though.

Emuway can currently load up an MH or Maildir folder and allow you to browse through the messages graphically. I'm currently working on implementing threading using:

Well, I've started another software project that I'm probably not going to finish. This time it's an MUA called Emuway. It will be coded in Ruby using Gnome and Glade for the interface. I'm trying to emulate the ease of use and simplicity MH in a GUI.

Basically, the GUI will be very simple. Rather than a menubar, it will have a toolbar to handle simple actions. Instead of a preview pane, highlighting a message will show a preview of it right there in the list. I think this makes scanning much faster. Double-clicking a message will open it either in a new window or in the same window (not sure if the latter is possible).

I plan to support MH and Maildir formats. There will be no POP3 because fetchmail does that for you. There will be no mail sorting because maildrop/procmail do that for you. I will support nested folders. I'll post some screenshots in a sec to illustrate what I'm aiming for.

I haven't been able to do much music-wise, but my determination to succeed is somehow stronger. I quit my drinking and can tell a big difference in my thought process. Well, nothing much going on in life these days. I'm not drinking anymore (it's been a whole two days). It doesn't really seem to add any benefit to my life and clouds my thinking, which is usually a bad thing. We'll see how that works.

In case you guys didn't hear, my part-time job is going out of business so by April my income will be cut. That kinda sucks.

I'm trying to get back into school so that I can go about getting a better job. Not that I like school or anything, but it seems like there is some inescapable force pushing me in that direction (seeing as how all my bullshit jobs keep going out of business).

Thanks to my step-mom, we have a car now. It's an '85 POS, but it runs good and gets us where we gotta go.

My full-time job gave me exactly 1 shift this week. How in the fuck am I supposed to pay the bills with 10 hours of work? What the fuck is wrong with these people? Don't they know I have two kids and a wife to support? I wish they wouldn't have said I'd get 40hrs a week, then I wouldn't have been counting on it and would have been looking for another job the whole time. Instead my dumbass is trying to work with them thinking eventually things will change. I see that I'll be moving along pretty soon. Hopefully I'll find another job first.

Today I decided to re-enroll in school. I did about 3 years at the Georgia Instititute of Technology. Everyone that knows me has been harrassing me to get back into school since I dropped out in about 2000, but I've always ignored them. Suddenly, today I thought about it and the thought of having assignments and projects to complete is extremely appealing to me.

I dropped out the first time cuz I had no desire or motivation to care what grades I made and with that kind of attitude in college, you're bound to end up broke :)

Hopefully the time I've had away from school has changed me in ways that will cause me to actually give a rat's hairy black ass.

Hrm. This thing is almost a waste. I barely post on it. Anyways. Fixed up my webpage a bit. It's pretty pointless, but I like it and that's all that really matters...right? I saw Pirates of the Carribean tonight. It was pretty cool. I'm tired, but do I go to sleep so that I can wake up for a 12-hour shift tomorrow? No. I hop on the old Linux box and type random shit on the web.

Anyways. I should be coming out with a demo CD pretty soon. I have all the lyrics and I'm starting to do some beats to go along with them. They'll probably be pretty simplistic, but at least you'll be able to get an idea of where I'm trying to go. The most important part of my music, I think, will be the vocals and the lyrics. The music is just the part you can nod your head to....or not.

The job finally gave me some hours, so I should be able to actually pay rent and buy some food for my family this month. It's gonna be great. I still haven't hit up any of those openmic spots, but that's mainly cuz I don't have the $5.00 cover :)

Well, I've recently discovered an app called Hydrogen. It's basically the same as FruityLoops, but for Linux (a graphical drum-machine). I really like it. I've already re-done my Cell Phone Roaming song with it, the music anyway. Only thing is, I still need a way to add melodies. The way I did it was to combine the output from SoundTracker and the output from Hydrogen to create the complete song, but it's a bit tedious. Hopefully I'll figure something better out.

I gotta make some moves with this music shit. The job isn't paying enough *or* giving me enough hours. Since finding a new job is probably not very likely, the only chance I have to get things straight is to become famous and make money in the music bizz. HAH! Wish me luck. :)

A couple nights ago I re-recorded (remixed?) my first demo song. It's called Cell Phone Roamin'. It's about a guy who's been unfaithful to his girlfriend because she hasn't been paying him any attention. I did the beat and everything all by myself (I'm a big boy). It's still lacking something, but at least it's something. You can listen to it here. It's really just a rough draft since I messed up on my own lyrics towards the end, but you get the point. :)

I finally was able to get in contact with someone at SBUX regarding my termination. Apparently I've been written up numerous times on a bunch of random stuff that I do not remember even discussing. I guess my next step is to get them to send me copies of all these write-ups with my signature on them, since you can't write someone up w/o telling them. I bet they can't produce because I'm sure my ex-manager doesn't have the documents cuz he's a big effing liar.

I don't know why this is bothering me. I don't want to work there anymore at *all*. I can't stand the fact that someone might be dragging my good name through the mud, though. I take pride in what I do, no matter what it is (ok, maybe not if it was Windows system administration or something). To know that he's making me look like a sloppy worker is driving me insane.

Well, I've been taking care of my son for about 2 days straight now and I gotta say, I give mad props to my wife for doing it day in and day out. I've been reviewing how I lost my job at SBUX and it makes me more pissed every time I think about it. After 2 years of working at probably *the* most stressful location in the southeast (Lenox Mall, Atlanta), I get fired on a technicality. Sure, I made a grave error, but I don't think the punishment fit the crime.

All I did was leave some money in the wrong place for a few seconds. If my store manager had not been there, no one would have ever noticed. If he would have just pointed out the mistake to me instead of hiding the money from me and calling HR, I would still have a job. I don't even believe that he called HR, I think he just didn't want to take full responsibility for my termination and be The Bad Guy(TM).

To make matters worse, I think the SBUX HR department is dodging me. I've been calling and leaving messages for about 2 weeks and they've yet to make the time to tell me why they terminated me. I put in 110% at that hell-hole for 2.5 years and this is the thanks I get. Way to create the Third Place guys!

I really tried to to buy any beer tonight, but here I am drinking a 22oz of Bud Ice purchased for 0.89 cents with another waiting in the fridge. At least I'm not carrying hard liquor around in my bag or in my glove compartment. I guess things could be worse. On the upside, with the wife and kids gone I have time to fix a few things on my box and make it feel more like "home". Helping the OpenSource community always makes me feel warm and tingly inside. :)
